Obituary of R. Calvin Sanderson

R. Calvin Sanderson, 91 of Riverview and a veteran of WW II passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital, Tuesday, June 8, 2015 following a brief illness. Born in Greenwich, PEI on July 17, 1923, he was the son of the late Arthur and Emma (Squires) Sanderson. It was following the war Calvin worked at Swifts and logging as a woodsman. He later became a independent contractor for home repairs and windows and doors. He enjoyed attending meeting as a member of the Riverview Veteran's and Armed Forces Association, his hobbies included working his farmland in Peakes PEI, he also loved telling stories and jokes. He was known as "Stock Car Man", he could be seen racing his Car #10 at River Glade Speedway. He is survived by two daughters Brenda Murphy of Moncton and Norma Sanderson of Riverview and his only grandson Greg Murphy of Riverview; also by his sisters-in-law Ruby, Peggy, Joan and Mary all of PEI; as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Vera M. (Berry) Sanderson in 1998, by his only son Robert A. "Bobby" Sanderson in 2008, son-in-law David Tower 2010; as well as his siblings Sterling, David (infant), David A., Lewis G., Randolph R., Myrtle H. (Winsloe) Whilt, Fulton J., Everett (infant), Martin B. (Heather), Penna F. and Gertrude (George) Yorston. Resting at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview with visitation on Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The Riverview Veterans Association are holding a service at the Funeral Home Thursday evening June 11, 2015 at 6:45pm The Funeral service will be held at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Interment will be in Midgell Cemetery, Midgell, PEI with a graveside and committal service on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 1:00pm. A reception will be held immediately following at the Dr. Roddy's Center, St. Peters Bay, PEI Donations in Calvin's memory made to the Midgell Cemetery Fund, Midgell, PEI or to the Alderwood Cemetery Memorial Tree Fund.
