Obituary of Jean Martell Grainger

Jean (MacLeod) Grainger passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in her 100th year. Even in her final days she showed grace, love and compassion and that exemplified how she lived her life. Born in Swift Current Saskatchewan to the late Stuart and Katherine(Smith) MacLeod, she moved with her family to Prince Rupert BC before moving to Moncton where she spent most of her life. Along with two older brothers, Douglas and Bruce MacLeod, two more siblings Margaret (Peg) Francis and Robert (Bob) MacLeod joined the family. All have predeceased Jean. She worked for Marven's before she married the love of her life, Jack Grainger. Eloping in 1939 on the eve of war, they were true partners in life and love embarking on many trips and adventures together. For Jean and Jack family came first. They had two children: Peter (Sharon Ogilvie) and Nancy (Joseph Robb). She will be loving remembered by her grandchildren: Christopher Grainger, Katherine Hutchinson, Lindsay Grainger (Christopher Young), William Robb (Stephanie) and Stuart Robb (Lynne). Jean will be dearly missed by her great grandchildren: Samantha and Sydney Robb, Emmett and Jack Hutchinson and Allie and Jack Robb. At home in Moncton or at the cottage at the Bluff, Jean was a warm and welcome presence. She attended Central United Church with her family. For many years she played golf with the ladies at The Moncton Golf Club. She was proud to have skipped a perfect 8 end in curling at The Moncton Curling Club where she was also a member. She enjoyed playing bridge with a group of close friends over the years. The flower shows and events at the cottage with all their many friends were highlights of the summers. She and Jack spent many happy winters in Florida. She carried on after Jack's death in 1984 but missed him forever. After many years on her own, she moved to Royal Court, Canterbury Hall and Monarch Hall. She received wonderful care from all the staff at these residences and the family will always be very grateful for all the kindness extended to her over the years. Jean always had a positive outlook on life and was a lady with a very kind heart. She will be missed. There will be no funeral service.
