Obituary of George Frederick “Fred” Gaudet

G. Frederick "Fred" Gaudet, 91, of Riverview, NB, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at his residence and has gone to be with the love of his life. Born in Moncton he was a son of the late Rudolph and Mary (Hawes) Gaudet. Fred was a former member of the Moncton Hospital Board of Trustees for fourteen years; past exalted ruler, B.P.O. Elks Moncton Lodge #229 and life member; past member of the Y.M.C.A Board of Trustees and member of the Y.M.C.A Foundation; past director of the Moncton Club Ltd. He founded and operated as president of Monarch Contracting, 1972-1988. He was one of the principle owners of the Moncton Golden Flames, later Moncton Hawks of the American Hockey League from 1984-1994. During his earlier years, he enjoyed a prominent role playing basketball with several local teams, particularly St. Bernard's C.Y.O. He played on several championship teams, throughout NB and the Maritimes. He made a host of friends during those years, which he cherished. He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Gaudet, Maureen Irving (Scott) of Riverview; two grandchildren Jessica and Justin Irving as well as several nieces and nephews. As the last surviving member of his immediate family, he was predeceased by his wife Gerrie; son Larry; sisters Emma, Patricia and Gertrude; brothers Ryerson, Raymond, Francis, Reginald, Rudolph and John. By personal request there will be no visitation held at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Falkland St., Moncton, on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 11:00am with Fr. Phil Mulligan officiating. Reception to follow at Holy Family Church Hall. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe. Donations in Fred's memory made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, would be appreciated by the family.
