Obituary of Carroll Ann O'Leary

Carroll Ann O’Leary (nee Shea), 73, of Moncton New Brunswick, passed away peacefully on Friday January 8 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Born in 1942, she was the daughter of Dorothy (Carroll) Shea and the late Fred Shea Carroll Ann was loved not only by her family, but also by countless friends and colleagues whose lives she touched. She was an active member of the community, and former VP of Patient Programs at the Moncton Hospital, who began her career as a nurse there in 1973. While working full time and raising her two children, she studied for and obtained her Bachelor and Master of Nursing. Among her many past accomplishments in the field of nursing, she held the positions of Director of Nursing at the Moncton Hospital, and President of the New Brunswick Nurses Association. In her retirement she found joy in continuing to help others, especially through her work with SIDA/AIDS Moncton, the Mayor’s Senior Advisory Committee, the Moncton Area Council of Churches, and the Spiritual and Religious Care Advisory Committee at the Moncton Hospital. Above all, Carroll Ann cherished her family. She will be sadly missed by her mother Dorothy Shea, of Moncton; two sons Shaun (Michelle Forbes) and Tim (Gina) of Halifax; three grandchildren: Maria, Michael and Shea O’Leary, of Halifax; brother Jim Shea, of Vancouver; niece Krista Kemp and family, of Moncton; nephews Michael Kemp and family, of Moncton and Christopher Shea, of Vancouver. In addition to her father Fred (1973), Carroll Ann was predeceased by her loving husband Cst. Micheal O’Leary (1974) of Saint John, and her beloved sister Louise Kemp (2010), of Fredericton. Visitation will take place at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Road in Riverview, NB on Wednesday January 13, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm. A Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, Moncton on Thursday January 14, 2016 at 9:30am, with Father Allison Carroll officiating. In Carroll Ann’s memory, donations to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
