Obituary of Cheryl Anne FitzGerald
Cheryl passed away peacefully October 8 2016 in Toronto ON.
Born in St. John’s Newfoundland, Cheryl grew up in Riverview NB where she was very active in sports including figure skating and gymnastics. In her adult years, Cheryl lived between Charlottetown PE and Toronto ON. She participated for years in disabled sports, both provincially and nationally. She loved and excelled in wheelchair basketball. In addition, Cheryl also participated in both of Rick Hansen’s Man in Motion Tours.
Cheryl played a key role in helping to establish the PEI Rec and Sport Association for the Disabled as well as the PEI Council of the Disabled. Cheryl also assisted in establishing the PEI chapter of the Canadian Paraplegic Association.
Cheryl was predeceased by her father Ed FitzGerald in 2005. She is survived by her mother, Elizabeth ( Betty ) FitzGerald, sister Lynn ( Paul ), brothers Tom ( Heather ) , Jeffery , Craig ( Nadine ). Also survived by her nephews Jamie, Tim, Frankie, Connor as well as her niece Erica. Cheryl is also survived by an uncle, several aunts and her many cousins.
There will be no viewing by request. A private family ceremony will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in Cheryl’s name to the Spinal Cord Rehab Fund ( Lyndhurst Centre) via the Toronto Rehab Foundation.
Special thanks to the medical staff at the Lyndhurst Rehab Centre, St. Michael’s Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, and support staff at 49 Henry Lane Terrance.
