Obituary of Katherine Mary Elizabeth 'Kay' McManus

Katherine Mary Elizabeth 'Kay' McManus died on March 17, 2006 at The Moncton Hospital after a seven month struggle with cancer. Born on April 9, 1913 to Margaret (MacDonald) and James Thomas Reid McManus, 'Kay' was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her sisters Mary, Margaret 'Peggy', Winnifred 'Winnie', Francis 'Francie' McManus and Janet (Gilles de Niverville), and by her brother John 'Jack' McManus (Marge). After graduating from the Provincial Normal School in 1931, Kay spent three years teaching at the Pine Glen School, the Melrose School and the Dorchester Road School. After obtaining a position at Mountain Road School, she taught grades 2 and 3 until her retirement after 35 years in the teaching profession. Kay was a longtime member of the Catholic Women's League, the Greater Moncton Association of Retired Teachers, New Brunswick Teachers Association and was an avid bridge player. She is survived by nieces Kathryn and Margaret de Niverville and by her nephews, William 'Bill' (Germaine) de Niverville, Paul (Alexis) de Niverville and Peter (Barbara) de Niverville; grandnephews Tasman, Thomas, Joseph, Patrick and by her grandnieces Sarah and Abigail. Resting at The Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd on Wednesday March 22, 2006 from 7:00 - 9:00pm, with parish prayers and memory sharing beginning at 8:30pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church on Thursday March 23, 2006 at 9:30 am with Father Allison Carroll officiating. Interment will be in St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to The Canadian Cancer Society, or The Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation.
