Obituary of Dorothy Janette Steeves

Dorothy Janette (Robb) Steeves, 79, of Riverview, passed away peacefully following a brief battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Moncton Hospital surrounded by her children. Born in River Glade, NB; she was the daughter of the late Frank and Leavy (Bannister) Robb. The youngest of eight children, is survived by her oldest brother Ernest of River Glade and her eight children: Debbie, Mike (Rhondalynn), Rod (Lorna), Cindy (Rick Dunn), Stephen (Cheryl Downing), Joan (Dana Graham), Pat Beers, and Tammy (Mike Murray), and her 16 grandchildren: Ben, Kiersten, Jordan, Garrett, Ryan, Hannah, Elijah, Leah, Jade (Nathanael Muller), Nolan, Mollie, Jarrod, Matthew, Jonathan, Kathleen and Ally. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by five brothers Arnold, Everett, Lloyd, Ralph and Murray, and by an infant sister Olivia. Dot passed on to her children a true example of all things patient, kind and understanding. She loved getting together with her special friends. Playing cribbage was one of her joys and teaching its finer points to her grandsons. Bowling and Pythian Sisters were fun for her as well as the social aspect of selling Avon, picking fiddleheads, listening to fiddle music and doing laundry (if you can imagine!). But quilting was her biggest passion. All 16 grandkids each have their own quilt; the Little School House for the boys and Bonnet Sue for the girls, not to mention all the miscellaneous quilts her children have received over the years. Her garden provided many hours of summertime enjoyment watching it grow, and eating the fresh produce – and then there were all the fall days spent pickling and preserving! Dot had a strong character and wonderful sense of humour that saw her through many difficult times. She taught us to look at life on the bright side and that it is better to laugh than cry. Dot's brown hair, at almost 80 years old, was real, friends, it's true. But her life was any colour but! Always trusting in God, she surrendered her life to Jesus in the latter years of her life. We love you and we'll miss you Mom. Visitation is at the Riverview Funeral Home Pine Glen Road, Riverview on Friday May 25, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.
