Obituary of Arthur Joseph Girouard
Arthur "Art" J. Girouard 81, of Dieppe N.B. passed away unexpectedly at his residence on February 28, 2017. Born in Amherst N.S, he was the son of the late Aurèle and Evangéline (Gauvin) Girouard. Arthur received degrees from both L'Université Saint-Joseph and L'Université Laval and employed by DuPont Canada upon graduation. In 1965 he pursued his career with L'Université de Moncton as vice-recteur adjoint des services administratifs until his retirement in 1996. He was proud of his Acadian heritage, valued the importance of higher learning and community involvement, volunteering with various organizations including the Rotary Club, Boys and Girls Club , Moncton Volunteer Center and Greater Moncton Music Festival. Art loved music and as an accomplished flutist, shared many stages with many musicians, treating audiences to music genres ranging from orchestral and classical to jazz and big band standards. He also looked forward to accompanying choirs at church services . His passion for music was passed on not only to his daughters, but to his grandchildren as well. Besides his love of sailing and bowling, Arthur was an avid golfer and club maker and a member of Lakeside Golf Course. His infectious laugh could be heard from one fairway to another and he was forever trying to change his grip, swing, clubs and everyone else's that took up the challenge to play a round with him. He will be deeply missed by his daughters Louise (Rick) Bell of Moncton, Monique Girouard (Michel Babineau) of Dieppe, grandchildren Mariève and Miguel; two sisters Anne Marie (Rick) Jones of Shediac and Rita (Pierre) Boudreau of Moncton; three brothers Leonard (the late Maureen) Girouard of Rothesay, Gerald "Gerry"(Betty Jane) Girouard of Montreal and Charlie (Emeline) Girouard of Cocagne; as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife Colleen (Chisholm) Girouard March 4, 2016. The family will be receiving relatives and friends at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview on March 12, 2017 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm. The funeral mass will be held at L'église du Christ-Roi, 300 Dominion St. Moncton on Monday March 13, 2017 at 10:00am with Father Graham Touchie officiating. Interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary at a later date. Donations in Arthur's memory made to the Cistercian-Trappist Monastery Our Lady of Calvary, 11505 Rte 126 Rogersville, NB E4Y 2N9 would be appreciated by his family.
