Obituary of Clement Brian Gillespie

It is with great sadness the family announce the passing of Brian Gillespie on February 19, 2014 at the Moncton Hospital sourrounded by his family. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Frank H. and Catherine M. (Savage) Gillespie. Brian was employed with the Canadian National Railway, firstly as a Freight Claims Agent, and later retiring as a Crew Dispatcher, Transportation Services. During the course of his CN career, Brian enlisted with the Canadian Reserve 113 Company, and also worked for General Motors as a Stationary Engineer. In his retirement, Brian fulfilled a life long ambition undertaking Marine training at the Nautical Institute in Port Hawkesbury, NS., and upon completion worked for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as a Deckhand and Oiler. Brian was a kind and gentle man whose greatest love was his family, his friends and the sea. He also had a strong feeling for civil rights and the protection of others, which led him to be the co-founder of the Nova Scotia Grandparents Rights Association. Left with fond memories are his four daughters, Beverly Gillespie of Sackville, Catherine Gillespie of St. Louis de Kent, Leslie Gillespie of Sackville, and Laurel Gibbons of Ottawa, Ont.; his three sons, James (Bernice) of Leduc AB, Kevin of Devon AB and George Gillespie (Christina) of Fort Sask AB.; a sister Mary Catherine Peters (Larry) of Charlottetown, PE.; his brother Dr. Terrence Gillespie (Rose) of Halifax, NS.; nineteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Thelma (Crossman) in 2012; son Daniel; brothers Donald, Vincent, Raymond, Bernard and Patrick Gillespie. Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, 43 Botsford St. Moncton, on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 11:00 am with Father Allison Carroll officiating. The family welcomes all to join in the reception immediately following the funeral mass. Interment will be in Shediac Road Roman Catholic Cemetery in the Spring. Donations in Brian's memory made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Bros.
