Obituary of Robert Lawrence Earnest Munro Jack

It is with profound sadness that we announce Larry’s passing after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to mourn, his wife of 49 years Sheila (Purdy), son David and his wife Donna, and their sons Brendan and Dawson Jack, daughter Katherine (Kathy) Arsenault and her husband Patrick, and their children Esme and Joseph Arsenault. He is also survived by his aunt Gladys Black of Riverview; uncle Allison MacMillan of Montreal and Bathurst; and aunt Jean MacMillan of Digby, N.S. and several treasured cousins. Larry was born in Miramichi and graduated from Bathurst High School, he later attended Mount Allison University. He worked with Co-op Atlantic for 35 years until he retired in 1996. Larry devoted many hours to public service and served on several boards including the Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission as the Riverview Representative (22 yrs), Drew Nursing Home (24 yrs). He was a long standing member and past master of the Keith Lodge #23. Larry was Past Chairman of the Greater Moncton United Way, and a member of the Probus club. He was a member of the Pointe du Chene Yacht Club where he served on the board of directors and enjoyed teaching CPS sailing. He was an active member of St Paul’s United Church, Riverview. His great passions included horse racing, car rallies, and hockey, coaching his son’s teams and attending his grandson’s games. He enjoyed watching both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Moncton Wildcats He particularly enjoyed sailing on Shediac Bay on his boat the Felina. Larry was predeceased by his parents, the late Ernest Jack and the late Margaret (MacMillan) Jack LeMarquand and stepfather Sydney LeMarquand. We wish to express our deepest appreciation to the extra mural organization, that has been so helpful to the family, especially Kathy Blakney, brightening the days with her sense of humour and good nature. Thank you to Dr. Phelan and Dr. Searle for being so accommodating, and to the oncology unit, Dr. Harb, Andrea and all the staff and volunteers – many thanks. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Larry’s memory to the Lorne Preston Scholarship Fund, providing scholarships to assist Headstart families (Lorne Preston Scholarship Fund c/o Moncton Headstart Inc., 1111 Mountain Road, Moncton) or the St. Paul’s United Church Building Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Brothers and Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd, Riverview (857-9544). Family and friends are invited to visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Keith Masonic Lodge # 23 will hold a service at 6:30 on Thursday evening at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 2 pm from St. Paul’s United Church, Riverview, Rev. Dr. Andrew O’Neill officiating. Interment will take place in New Mills Cemetery at a later date.
