Obituary of Shirley Isabel Johnson

Shirley Isabel Johnson, of Riverview, NB passed away peacefully at her residence with her loving family by her side on Monday, January 08, 2018. Shirley, originally from Moores Mills, NB, was born in St. Stephen, NB, the daughter of the late Gerald and Alice (Milberry) Gilman. Graduating from St. Stephen Normal School she spent time in Saint John and Moncton throughout her work life. She retired from NB Tel in 1998. Following retirement Shirley was able to spend many happy days at her cottage in Oak Bay. Returning to Moncton several years ago, Shirley joined the Coverdale Rec Centre's walking group, an activity that became her weekly highlight. Her love of cooking was known and enjoyed by all, especially her rolls and cookies. Knitting was also a big part of her life; and her children and grandchildren wear her mittens and socks with great pride. Survived by four daughters: Peggy (Wayne) Maillet, Sharon (Jim) Ingram, Sheilah (Paul) Yeomans, and Debbie (Fred) Ashley, daughter-in-law Nancy Ashley, brother Charles Gilman (Marilyn), eleven grandchildren: Sean (Jessie), Chris, Michelle (Rob), David (Martha), Julie, Kelly (Joel), Joe (Christine), Allison, Nick, Elizabeth (Jack), Phil (Stephanie); four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her son Ron Ashley, first husband, Gordon Ashley, second husband James Johnson; brother, Lloyd Gilman, and life long friend and sister-in-law, Marie Giddens. A special thank you to the Extra-Mural Nursing T eam, especially Debbie, who supported Mom in her wish to remain independent in her home. By request there will not be any visitation held, cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Shirley's life will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 12:00pm from Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in Moores Mills, NB at a later date. Donations in Shirley's memory made to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Extra-Mural Program- Driscoll Unit through friendsfoundation.ca , or any charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
