Obituary of Barbara Aileen Janes

Barbara A. Janes, formerly of Wedgewood Ave, and Peoples Park Towers passed away at The Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home on Sunday May 28, 2006 at the age of 93 years. Born in Saint John, NB on March 24, 1913 she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ninette (Woodill) Kelly. She graduated from the Saint John General Hospital of Nursing in 1934. She was a life time member of the Mildred Bennett IODE, and organized their annual bridge dinner for 25 years. She was known for her love of the sun and sea, her summers were spent in the Martinon and later in Caissie Cape. On sunny days from April to October she could be found sitting outside reading and later years in the sunroom at spencers. Always planning and working on handwork her children, grandchildren and friends were the recepients of many sweaters, christmas stockings and beautiful needlepoint articles. Young at heart and in spirit Barb kept current of world issues. She loved to travel and enjoyed holidays to Europe and the Carribean. Her 85th and 86th birthdays were spent in the Dominican Republic. Her final years at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home have been blessed with the love and affection of family, friends, and especially her caregivers. The staff loved her and she them, her last years were blessed with these caring people who nurtured her mentally, physically and spiritually. 'A life well lived!' She is survived by her daughter Shaune Smith of Rothesay; daughter in law Diane Janes (Dan Dugas) of Quispamsis; special nephew Derek Sparks (Marvel) of Calgary; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Murray Howard Janes in 1984; son Harry Kelly Janes in 1996; sister Ola Sparks in 1960; and by her grand daughter Laura Janes in 1990. A memorial service will be held at The Riverview Funeral Home on Wednesday May 31, 2006 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Richard Jackson officiating. In Barb's memory, donations made to The Alzheimers Society of South East New Brunswick or to The K. E. Spencer Memorial Home would be appreciated.
