Obituary of Basil Cloney
Basil Arthur Cloney, 88 years, of Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital, on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. Born in Amherst, NS he was the son of the late Clarence and Grace (McKay) Cloney. Basil enlisted in the RCAF and completed two terms as an Aircraft Technician and Military Police Clerk. He retired from Champlain Signs where he worked as a sign designer. He spent many years prior with CKCW TV as an artist and Basil designed the original ATV logo. He was the first black and white animator in NB. He taught art to a wide range of students some of whom all well known locally. He was a former member of Moncton Art Society. He was a well known entertainer playing the bass, guitar and vocals performing with many groups including The Crescendos and "Round the Bend" revues. He volunteered at the Moncton Hospital as an entertainer. Survived by his wife of 63 years Lila (McFadden); children David Cloney (Mary-Jean) of Moncton, Charlotte Hutchison of Calgary, Michael Cloney (Sandra) of Riverview, William Cloney (Elaine) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Kristina, Jonathan, Keith, Patricia, Timothy, Sabrina, Melanie, Sarah, Amanda, and Scott; also by eleven great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sister Evelyn Thompson. The funeral service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel, 171 Lutz Street on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Danny Compton officiating.
