Obituary of Allison L. "Al" Close

Allison L. "Al" Close of Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home formerly of People's Park Tower and Riverview passed away at his residence on Friday, November 29, 2019 at the age of 92. Born in Salisbury he was a son of the late John and Gertrude (Lounsbury) Close. Al retired as manager of the Distribution Centre at Co-op Atlantic and formerly was employed at CN and in Massachusetts, USA. He was an avid softball player in his early life, playing for the Salisbury Flyers in the 40's and 50's. His dry humour and wit always managed to get a smile or laugh from those around him. Al enjoyed socializing and playing cards with friends. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church and was the Past Master and former Treasurer of Salisbury Lodge # 20 F&AM and a member of Co-op Atlantic Retirees Association. Allison was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his fiancé Joyce Murphy; special friend, Carolyn McLean; sister-in-law, Kay Close; brother-in-law, James Cook; friend, Sandy Wereley; special nephew, Duane Lounsbury as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his first wife, Ruth (Woods) in 1986 and his second wife, Clara (Cook, Steeves) in 2017; sisters: Annie Gamblin MacFarlane, Estella Douthwright and Ruth Armstrong; brothers: Gordon, Roy, Stanley and Wilfred. Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home on Monday, December 2, 2019 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A Masonic service will be held at 5:45 pm. The Funeral service will be held at St. Paul's United Church, 404 Cleveland Ave. Riverview, on Tuesday, December 03, 2019 at 11:00am with Rev: Steve Berube and Fr: Phil Mulligan officiating. A reception following the service will be held in the church hall . Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of Evergreen wing at Spencer's for Allison's care during the past few months.
