Obituary of David James Morris

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jim Morris of Moncton NB on Friday, March 8, 2019. Jim was the son of David and Clare (Neal) Morris of Moncton and will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 32 years, Lisa (McGrath) and sons Ryan and Cody. He is survived by sisters Barb (John Sadler) of London ON, Beth (Lorne Gaudet) of Charlottetown; Uncle Bill Morris (Dale) of Fredericton; brothers-in-law Kirk McGrath (Cindy Carroll), Mark McGrath (Kathy) all of Halifax; cousins Dean Morris (Hilary March) of Merrimack NH, Bill Morris of Fredericton, Alan Neal (Liz) of Grand Bend ON; nieces, Jennifer Sadler, Rebecca Sadler (Ashley Lintott), Lauren Gaudet, Jessie Cunningham (Mark), Brittney Poole (Matt), and Nadia Carroll; nephews, Josh McGrath (Brittany), Matt McGrath (Courtney) and Nick O’Carroll (Heather). Jim was predeceased by grandparents Clyde and Jean (Gulliver) Morris, Jim and Mildred (Irving) Neal; Uncle Bob Neal, Aunt Irene Neal, and parents-in-law Percy and Carol McGrath. Jim was a valued partner with industrial HVAC company MacLeod & Grant for 18 years and also spent many years in Moncton as a restauranteur and restaurant supplier. As a young man, he travelled the world serving with the Royal Canadian Navy as a bosun aboard Iroquois class ships including Search & Rescue. A tireless volunteer, Jim took on roles from cub/scouts leader and hockey coach to president or director of many community and professional organizations including the Greater Moncton Chamber of Commerce, Moncton Flight College, Greater Moncton Economic Commission, ASHRAE, NB Natural Gas Association, Moncton Squash Club, Greater Moncton Airport Authority, Moncton Industrial Development, Moncton Elks Club, Moncton Kinsmen, and council chairman of Mount Royal United. Jim was a Past Master of Keith Lodge #23 F. & A.M., the third generation of Masonic Lodge service. Jim loved boating and sports, particularly squash, golf, skiing and curling. His favorite place in any season was the family cottage on the Northumberland Strait where he could fish, snowmobile, make (huge) bonfires, tap his maple trees or lounge under the stars in the company of family and friends. Master of the grill, Jim reveled in cooking for large groups no matter the occasion. Jim’s readiness to lend a helping hand and to put the needs of others ahead of his own made Jim a highly respected member of the community. He will be sadly missed by all who were privileged to know and work with him. Funeral arrangements are with Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home, Riverview NB; online condolences at www.tuttlefuneralhome.ca. Service will be Thursday, March 14 at 1pm, Mount Royal United Church, Moncton NB, beginning with a Masonic Memorial service. No visitation by request.
