Obituary of William B., White, QC

The passing of William B., White, QC, occurred peacefully in hospital surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the age of 88. Bill was born in Halifax, NS to William and Marian (Smith) White. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by special family friend Gladys Strickland who came to live with them during the war. After deciding against a possible career in hockey, the defenceman known as "Big Red" graduated from Dalhousie Law School and practised law in Moncton for 46 years. A star athlete in his day, he enjoyed salmon fishing, which included expertly tying his own flies, golf (especially with his three boys, who never became quite as good as he was), bowling with his retired buddies, and bridge. Over the years he was active in many community organizations. Cherished time with family was spent at the camp near Elgin and a lifetime of summers at the family cottage at Cap Brule. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Clarene (Avard) and three children Bill (Joanne), Tim (Janice), and John (Linda); grandchildren Erin, Bradley, Kela and Matai; sister Pam Raddall (Tom) and family; and cousins Peggy Lockhart, The Honourable Paul Creaghan, and Gretchen Coughlan. The family wishes to thank the wonderful ICU staff at the Dr. Georges Dumont University Hospital Centre, his team of specialists at the Moncton Hospital, the many Extra Mural nurses and therapists who helped Dad stay at home until the end, and in particular our long time family physician Dr. Brian Davidson. The family will receive condolences at St. Paul’s United Church, 404 Cleveland Ave, Riverview, NB (506) 386-3335 on Wednesday, May 1 from 7 to 9 pm. Celebration of Bill’s life will be held at St. Paul’s on Thursday, May 2 at 2:00 pm. If desired, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
