Evelyn was born in Halifax and moved to Moncton in 1936 with her parents. She graduated from Moncton High School in 1940. She then attended Success Business College and began her first job with Moncton’s Water and Light Department at City Hall. During the war she assisted the Red Cross in Moncton.
She married Bruce Anderson on 11 September 1948 at Central United Church, Moncton and then as a young bride moved to Amherst NS to become a homemaker and raise her two sons. In 1963, Bruce was transferred by Central Trust to Fredericton and Evelyn readily adapted to her new home making many friends. She was employed by the United Way, the Chamber of Commerce, Connaught Street School and Montgomery Street School as a secretary. She was a member of the Sir Leonard Tilley Chapter IODE. In 1989, she and Bruce had just retired and decided to consolidate their homes and move to Cornwall Point (Shediac) where they made many friends.
Evelyn, Bruce and the children enjoyed many summers at the family cottage at Point du Chene where they had a wide circle of friends. There were many sing a longs and other functions at the cottage or on the beach. Evelyn often enjoyed a daily swim. She was an enthusiastic gardener who enjoyed planting and maintaining an extensive vegetable and flower garden whether in Amherst, Fredericton or Shediac. This hobby continued right up to 2012. Evelyn also enjoyed golf, badminton and curling in her younger years. She also enjoyed socializing and attending formal balls and functions with Bruce as part of his militia military career.
Her biggest hobby was travel, including several family trips to Florida and Bermuda and within Canada but she is better known as a lover of cruises. She and Bruce have visited most of the world by sea and Evelyn would sometimes go alone if Bruce was working. She was presented an award by Cunard Lines in Santiago, Chili in 1992 for having completely encircled the globe with just that one company! She also sailed on all "3 Queens". She completed 69 cruises in total, including her last in 2015 on Celebrity Silhouette with her daughter in law, Franscine.
Evelyn’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Moncton Hospital’s Cardiac Unit, in particular Dr. Jennifer Sinclair and RN Devon Miller for their care during Evelyn’s last few days.
In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A "celebration of life" will be held later this year with internment at Elmwood Cemetery.
