Obituary of Robert Francis McFarlane

Robert McFarlane of Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home passed away peacefully at his residence with members of his Spencer Home family at his side on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Robert spent most of his career as a bricklayer in Halifax and Montreal before marrying his wife Ivy (Wilson) and moving to Moncton in 1984 and taking up trucking. Robert and Ivy had 19 years together before her passing in 2003. He loved her and missed her every day since. Robert came to Spencer’s in 2008 and quickly charmed his way into the hearts of many staff as well as several visitors who had grown accustomed to seeing him throughout the home. He always had time for a conversation whether it be a quick "hey hun, how’s your day going?" or a light banter regarding rival sports teams, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs. Robert had an incredibly huge heart and did what he could for others, expecting nothing in return. He made it clear that if you were good to him, he’d be good to you and if you ever needed anything, he would have your back. Robert will be missed making his way up and down the halls checking up on everyone as well as assuring any construction or maintenance jobs being done around the building were up to his standards. That distant, "Hey!" from a few yards away that always had at least 3 or 4 people turning to him with a smile anticipating his sarcasm or wit will never be forgotten. He truly became family to so many at Spencer’s. Those who were lucky enough to call him a friend will never forget him. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home Chapel (35 Atlantic Baptist Ave., Moncton) on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 2:30pm. All are welcomed to attend. The interment will take place in Alderwood Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Robert to the Spencer Home Foundation or a Memorial of the donor’s choice. Cremation and funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Brothers Riverview Funeral Home.
