Obituary of Leonard Maxwell Magee

Leonard Maxwell Magee, 55, of Moncton, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, doing what he loved best: spending the afternoon at his "100 Acre Woods". Born in Windsor, NS on August 27, 1964, Leonard was the son of Pearl Magee (Morris), and the late Winston Churchill Magee, of Louisbourg, NS. Leonard will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife of 33 years, Jo-Anne Elizabeth (Forgeron); his four children, Katherine (Liam) Spencer, Shauna (Mathieu) Chalifoux, Amanda (David) Murray, and his only son, Nathaniel (Mallory). He is also survived by brothers Eugene, Neil, Sean, and Joseph (Michelle), and his dear sister Cindy (Bernie) MacDonald; by his father and mother-in-law, who loved him like a son, Roy and Rose Marie Forgeron of Main-À Dieu; sisters-in-law Huena (Gary) Corbett, Regina (Bruce) Spencer, Theresa Forgeron, and Charlotte Forgeron (Clarence "Soups" Perry), and brother-in-law, Robert (Lori) Forgeron. He will also be deeply missed by his four grandsons, William and Angus Spencer, and Éric and Michael Chalifoux, his pride and joy. He was a loving uncle to 18 nieces and nephews, and 10 grand nieces and nephews. Lennie, as he was affectionately called by his family and friends, grew up in various towns across Nova Scotia, following his father’s employment opportunities before they finally took up roots in Louisbourg, Cape Breton. He was an avid outdoorsman, even as a small child; fishing, running his snare traps, and cutting down and hauling trees. He excelled in absolutely everything he did. He was named "Best Catcher" in his baseball league, but his greatest catch of all was his beautiful wife Jo-Anne, his schoolyard sweetheart. At the age of 18, Lennie left his family home to pursue his studies in industrial instrumentation. Upon graduation, he was hired by Invensys Foxboro in Moncton, where a one Valerie Byron took him under her wing. He remained involved in sales for the remainder of his career and was highly respected. Lennie was recognized for his exceptional achievements and received numerous awards highlighting his talents and abilities in his field of work. He won numerous trips, including, a family trip to Disney World, a couple’s getaway to Jamaica, and a father-son weekend to see the Montréal Canadiens. Lennie spent a lifetime on and around the basketball court, first as a parent watching his children play the game, and then later as a volunteer, instructor, coach, and referee with Basketball New Brunswick and MKMBA. He was a member of the Northumberland Trail Riders for a number of years, and never missed a coffee break with his Pic-A-Loaf (and later McDonald’s) coffee friends. Lennie loved the outdoors and spent countless hours at "The River" and "The 100 Acre Woods" with his wife, children, grandchildren, and by himself. He found peace and solace in the woods, be it fishing, exploring his tree lots, tapping trees for maple syrup, or riding the backwoods trails on his side-by-side. His true passion was cutting down carefully selected trees and milling them into the lumber needed for his dream cottage; a cottage he was going to build with his own two hands, a gathering place for his family and friends. Other lifelong passions of his were creating beautiful works of art in stained glass, welding, and recycling treasures from big garbage pick-up day. Lennie was a jack-of-all-trades, and a master at most. He gave of his time freely and lovingly to his family, friends, and strangers. He was always there when you needed him and ready to give you the shirt off his back. If Papa can’t fix it, no one can! Leonard was predeceased by his father, Winston Churchill; his brothers-in-law, Peter Forgeron, H.F. (Boe) MacIntryre, and John Murphy; as well as his grandparents, a number of aunts and uncles. He will also be dearly missed by his second family the Johnsons, and his Elmo, Alma Gauvin. Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview on Friday, December 20, 2019 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at 11:00am with Fr. Allison Carroll officiating.
