Obituary of Elroy James Lund
Elroy James Lund, formerly of Leslie St, Moncton passed away at the K. E. Spencer Memorial Home, on Monday, February 17, 2020 at the age of 82 years. Born in Moncton on Aug 6th, 1937, he was the son of the late Linus U. and Annie E. (Cameron) Lund.
Elroy was a longtime member of St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church. After 40 years of service as a CNR Trainman, he retired in 1992. He spent 6 years as a Director with METS (Moncton Employment & Training Services) in support of the special work that had been provided to his brother Peter. In addition to time spent assisting in the care of aging or ill family members, he remained very active. An enthusiastic fan of harness racing, he enjoyed many hours at the race tracks in Atlantic Canada, the highlight of which was always PEI’s Old Home Week, from his father’s originating island. He was an avid curler and golfer, who spent many years as a member of the Beaver Curling Club and Lakeside Golf Club.
He is survived by his brothers, Gerald (the late Maureen) of Windsor, Ont; Ralph (Lavetta) of Moncton; sisters-in-law, Madge Lund of Moncton and Sheila Lund of Quispamsis, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and grand nieces and grand nephews. All of whom left behind, are grateful for the important role that he played in the lives of his nieces and nephews both close to home and across the country.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his sisters Beverly and Marie Lund; brothers, Urban, Walter, Basil, Harold, Peter and Cameron; sister-in-law Lenore Lund. The family would like to thank the kind and comforting care provided by the staff at Spencer’s, who will long remember his sense of humor and the special character that he truly was.
