Obituary of Ralph Fraser Forbes

Ralph Fraser Forbes of Riverview, NB passed away at the Veterans Health Care Centre on Tuesday, June 09, 2020 at the age of 96. Born in Nashwaak Bridge, NB he was a son of the late Angus and Mabel (Edney) Forbes and husband of the late Myrtle (Rodgers)(2014). They were married 71 years. Ralph was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Riverview, NB. He was also a member of the Riverview Veterans & Armed Forces Association. A Veteran of WWII he served with the Royal Canadian Army overseas in England, France, Belgium, & Holland. After returning from overseas he worked at Dryden Motors in Moncton as a mechanic for 7 years and built himself a home in Moncton for his family. In 1953 he moved to Riverview and began a fulfilling 34 year career with Otis Elevator Company in Moncton. He retired in 1987. He and Myrtle spent a great deal of time travelling with their family; making annual cross country trips to the west coast in many different RV’s taking different routes each time. With no GPS in those days, his travels led to many interesting and unscheduled places. Ralph also enjoyed woodworking and family members have beautiful pieces of furniture he made. He loved to fish and salmon fishing in BC was one of his favorite things. He and Myrtle were bowlers and square dancers for many years. A very talented man, especially with all things mechanical, He was a jack of all trades who could fix almost anything. He was caring, quiet, and calm. Honest and fair with a subtle sense of humor. A perfect role model for his children and grandchildren. Admired and respected by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. Ralph is survived by his daughters, Sharon Watkins (David) of Williams Lake, BC, Ruth Forbes of Kingsville, ON; sons, Wayne (Carolyn) of Riverview, Peter (Lea) of Riverview and John (Tina) of Fredericton; sister-in -law Barbara Forbes; 9 grandchildren, Peter, Darlene, Susan, Kimberlee, Mark, Michael, Rebecca, Trisha and Alexander; 16 great- grandchildren; 3 great-great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife; he was predeceased by his sisters; Sadie Turner, Elizabeth Clark, and Edith Cameron and brothers; Murray, Stanley, Sandy, Harold, Clarence, and Shirley . His family expresses its heartfelt thanks to the staff at the War Veterans Care Center for the wonderful care and attention they gave Ralph. A graveside service will be held at Fairhaven Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 1:00pm.
