Obituary of Richard B Colpitts

Richard B. Colpitts of Moncton, NB passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Thursday, March 04, 2021 at the age of 88. Born in Hillsborough, NB he was a son of the late Walter and Esther (West) Colpitts. Richard worked at the NB Gov. Municipal Services Dept. in Hillsborough, then was employed at the Moncton Hospital until his retirement. He attended Lewisville Baptist Church in Moncton, NB. In his youth, he could be found at his Uncle Lloyd's store in Hillsborough or playing fastball, he was the pitcher with the Hillsborough team for many successful seasons. Living close to the rink in his youth, he loved to skate and play hockey. An avid collector and restorer of antiques, he loved to go to yard sales for those forgotten treasures. He has passed this passion on to his daughter and granddaughter Erin. He was an avid country music fan, reader and historian, being especially proud of the history of his home and heritage in Albert County and intrigued by the history of the Oak Island treasure. Survived by his wife, M. Marilyn (Lewis) Colpitts; one daughter, Valerie McDermott (Tim) of Rawdon, NS; and two step sons, Brent Porter of ON and Vaughn Porter (Charlotte) of Moncton, NB; sister, Anna Hutchinson (Roland) of Hillsborough, NB; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Colpitts, Riverview, NB; brother- in- law Herman Lewis; grandchildren, Kasey McDermott, Rawdon ,NS and Erin McDermott( Matthew Snyder) Chilliwack, BC, Alec and Morgan Porter, Moncton, NB and Nicholas Colpitts(Chantal Cormier) Lwr. Coverdale, NB; one great-grandchild Haidon and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his son, Stuart K. Colpitts; his brother, William Colpitts and sister-in-law, Carol Lewis. Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers Riverview Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 from 2-4 pm for people over 65 and 6 to 8pm for the public. The Funeral service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Riverview Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. Gordon MacLeod officiating. Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens. Donations in Richard's memory made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to Lewisville Baptist Church Building Fund would be appreciated by the family.
