Obituary of Rowland Cook

Rowland Cook, 98, of Moncton, NB passed peacefully into Heaven, with family by his side, on August 7, 2021. Born in Preston, Lancashire, England, he was the son of the late William and Mabel (McGarry) Cook. Rowland proudly served overseas in the Royal Air Force as a Corporal during WWII with air crash rescue, fire and chemical warfare. While stationed in Moncton he met his wife-to-be, Marie Meda Balser. They were married in 1944 and had 72 wonderful years together. After the war, Rowland immigrated to Canada and worked at T. Eaton Company in the mail-order division until its closure after which, he worked in landscaping and interior design. Rowland attended West Lane Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Marshall (Gary) of Amherst, NS.; son, Paul Cook (Joelle LaPlante) of Moncton, NB.; daughter-in-law, Debbie Cook of Moncton, NB.; six grandchildren: Daniel (Nicole), Francine, Bernard (Susan), Amanda (Josh), Susie (Alex), and Andrea (Mitch); several great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; his brothers Alfred Cook (Maureen), Christopher Cook (Maureen), and Robert Cook of England as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family both in Canada and the UK. Rowland was predeceased by his wife, Marie Cook (Balser), sister Mildred Melling (Cook), and brothers William Cook and Joseph Cook. All arrangements have been entrusted to Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home in Riverview, NB. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm on August 10, 2021. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 will be holding a prayer seBrice at the funeral home on Tuesday evening at 5:30pm. The funeral service will be held at 11:00am on August 11, 2021 with Pastor Scott Ryder officiating. Interment will be in the Amherst Cemetery, NS. A special thanks to Tammy Gauthier; also the team at the Veterans’ Health Centre in Moncton, NB., for their exemplary and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rowland’s memory can made to the West Lane Baptist Church or the Veterans’ Health Centre.
