Obituary of Dr. Gérard Yves R. Conan

Gérard Conan demeurant à Baltimore N.B., s’est éteint mardi le 1er mars à l’Hôpital de Moncton. Il avait 75 ans. Né à Fougères, Bretagne, France. Il était le fils de Marcelin Conan et d’Odette (Girrebeuk) Conan Gérard était un passionné de la nature. La mer, la pêche et la recherche étaient ses principaux intérêts. Il a toujours été un étudiant sérieux et appliqué et plus tard un professionnel respecté. Il a passé à ses enfants ses propres valeurs pour affronter la vie et il était fier d’eux. Les dernières années de sa vie ont été illuminées par ses deux petits enfants Brandon et Loralie. Il avait toujours sa Bretagne natale dans son cœur. Bon vivant, excellent époux et père, il a partagé 49 ans de sa vie avec son épouse et amie, Maria Felisa. La famille tient à remercier l’Hôpital de Moncton, docteurs et infirmières qui prenaient soin de lui depuis quelques années et au personnel du Riverside-Albert Health and Wellness Centre, spécialement au Docteur Ronald Garston. Il laisse dans le deuil sa femme et amie Maria Conan (Pizarro), sa fille Patricia Conan-Estabrooks (Andrew) de Riverview, N.B., ses fils Mikaël Conan (Christina) de Calgary, Alberta et Yves Conan de Oxford, Angleterre; frères, François Conan (Sylvie) de Quimper, Bretagne, France, Dr Bernard Conan (Monique) de Douarnenez, Bretagne, France; ses petits enfants Brandon et Loralie Estabrooks. Une célébration de sa vie aura lieu le lundi 7 mars à la maison funéraire Tuttle Brothers, Riverview entre 16h et 18h. Born in Fougeres, France he was a son of the late Marcelin and Odette (Girrebeuk) Conan. Gerard had a lifelong love of nature. The sea, fishing, and marine research were his chief interests in life, having lived near the ocean since his birth. Always studious in his youth, he was equally diligent and prolific in his career, earning himself international recognition in his field from peers, colleagues, and students alike. He made sure to pass on these values to his children to prepare them for life; he never missed a chance to tell people how proud he was of all of them. His twilight years were brightened by the presence of his grandchildren Brandon and Loralie. His native Brittany was never far from his heart; he would return every few years to reconnect with his roots. Bon vivant and loving husband and father, he shared 49 years of his life with his beloved wife and best friend, Maria Felisa. They met during a tumultuous time in Chile and took a chance to start a life together. The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of the Moncton Hospital who cared for him with compassion and professionalism these last few years.
