Obituary of Elizabeth "Betty" Garland

Elizabeth M (Betty) Garland of Spencer’s Nursing Home and formerly of Stoney Creek passed away on April 6, 2022 surrounded by her family. Born on January 5, 1933 in Bass River, NS, she was the daughter of the late Alex and Freda (Fowler) Moore. Mom grew up in Bass River and continued to visit with her childhood friends until she was unable to do so due to illness. Bass River always held a special place in Mom’s heart and in 1955, Mom moved to Stoney Creek where she spent most of her adult life. Mom worked for Maritime Tel and Tel in Halifax as well as the T Eaton Company in Moncton. With her family growing, she stopped working outside of the home to raise us. Our parents bred and showed German Shepherds and Mom was a lifetime member of the Moncton Kennel Club as well as the CKC. She spent countless hours volunteering as the Show Secretary and later as a Ring Steward. Mom often quoted Robert Service poetry to us and had a fascination with the North culminating in a dream trip to the North with her cousin, Mary Lou Smith and her husband, Karl. Mom loved music, traveling and bingo. Mom was a member of the Stoney Creek Baptist Church. Left to mourn her passing are her children, Ann (Mark) Moore of Riverport, NS, Barb of Riverview and Sandy of Stoney Creek, her sister, Joyce (Richard) Parker of Stoney Creek and her grandchildren, Jessica (Aileen) of Dartmouth, Leah of Edmonton, James and Alex of Riverview as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Robert and her son, Jim (1979). We would like to thank the staff of the Kenneth E Spencer Memorial Home and especially the staff of Deerwood wing who took very good care of and loved our mother as demonstrated by her care over the last few days. Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd, Riverview, NB on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 1:00pm until service time at 2:00pm.
