Obituary of Robert Walter Killam
KILLAM, Robert (Bob) Walter
Bob went home to his heavenly home on October 19, 2024. He was born in Canaan Station on November 18, 1931. He was the second youngest in a family of 9 children, born to the late Addison and Viola (Sherwood) Killam.
The family moved to Berry Mills when Bob was 9 years old where he grew up and lived until meeting Marguerite Perry when they both were teenagers. In the 50s, Bob built a home in Bridgedale with a little help from a friend, and moved his young family there and they lived in this home for 67 years, moving to independent living only in July of this year.
While it is difficult to let go of a husband, Dad, Grampy and great Grampy, we are celebrating a life that was lived to its fullest. Our family was privileged to sit with him over the last several days in the hospital, to sing the old gospel songs to him that he loved, and some not-so-old, as well as pray with him. Family meant everything to him.
He was a very quiet, maybe reserved man but was very passionate and possibly we could say, bold, when speaking of his Lord and Saviour! He loved to go for drives which we would often take them on, as in later years he did not drive much himself, but loved to be chauffeured!
He retired from Moncton City Hospital in 1994 having worked for 25 years in the maintenance department.
He is survived by his loving and very attentive wife, Marguerite (Perry) Killam, having celebrated their 73rd Anniversary on August 18th of this year. Also, survived by his children, son, Paul Killam (Evelyn); daughter, Patsy Gosselin (Josh); grandchildren: Chris, Shannon (Curtis), Allen (Amy), Shawn, Andrew (Jenny) & Justin (Meghan); great-grandchildren: Anna, Addison, Matthew, Blake, JJ & Waylon and step great-grandchildren, Nathalie & Ember; and a brother, Rev. Gillis Killam (Lorna), his “baby brother” who he was very close to even though they lived on opposite ends of the country; daughter-in-law, Annette Killam; brother-in-law, Oliver Matthews.
Besides his parents, he is predeceased by sons, Mark Killam (1984), Terry Killam (2017); brothers-Douglas, Orland, Everett (Mary) & George (Frances); and sisters-Evelyn Christie (Alex), Bernice Howson (John) & Rhoda Matthews.
Bob was a very happy outdoorsman who always had a beautiful garden, even planting one this summer and enjoying Hodge Podge from his own crop. He was an active member of Faith Assembly Church, Moncton, where he would often lead the song service and sometimes speak. In later years when Bob couldn’t get out to church, he would watch the service online.
He loved doing puzzles and his puzzles covered his rec room walls. It was rare that he threw anything away, and being more than a handyman, he always wanted to try and fix everything that came across his path.
And…….he always appreciated a good dad joke.
Bob was a very remarkable man and good friend to so many and he will be missed.
