Edgett … Verna Loretta- Verna (Buddy) Loretta (Carter) Edgett died, at age 87, peacefully in the company of her family at the McNair Manor in Riverview, New Brunswick, on Saturday, August 11, 2007. Verna was born in Moncton November 2, 1919 to Blair and Gertrude Carter. She is survived by her daughters Sharon Edgett, Riverview, N.B.; Judy Warner (Gerry), Ottawa, Ontario; Son Rick , Dartmouth, N.S., 12 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband Ned, Daughter Gail Lawrence; 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Verna is the last surviving member of this generation of the Carter family. Verna and Ned were married in Moncton on New Years eve 1941. At the time Verna was a well known speed skater who achieved fame by winning the Provincial speed skating championships by scoring first place in all senior ladies’ competitions in 1938. Her love of the sport continued well beyond that and her support to future champions carried on throughout her married life. Very early in her married life, Verna opted to support her husband’s career in sales, providing a stable environment to raise their growing family rather than embarking on a separate career. She saw homemaking as an honourable profession pursuing it with all the vigor she had devoted to skating. When Ned was stricken with failing health, Verna took on, as a challenge, providing selfless care and comfort. Behavior most typical of the woman she was. Verna has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Road, Riverview with Rev. Jim MacDonald officiating. A reception will follow the service with interment, in Elmwood Cemetery, on completion. Family flowers only. Donations in lieu of flowers to Friends of The Moncton Hospital or a charity of choice.
