Obituary of Verna Annie Shutt
Verna Annie Shutt of Camden Park Terrace passed away on the Palliative Care Unit of the Moncton Hospital on Friday, April 4, 2008 at the age of 90.
Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of Claude and Lillian (Duffy) Chisholm.
She was vice-president of the first graduating class of the Moncton High School and a graduate of the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of First Baptist Moncton, Queen St., a member of IOOF Pearl Rebekah Lodge #9 and OES Fidelity Chapter #36, a member of Peoples Park Tower Senior’s Club, a former member of the Bridgedale Seniors and a life member of the Beaver Curling Club. An active curler for many years, she was also a former three time provincial ladies curling champion.
She is survived by daughter Brenda Nearing (Joseph) Halifax, NS; son Edward (Margot) Halifax, NS; sister Mabel Kendrick Virginia, USA; grandsons Timothy Shutt (Robin) and Scott Shutt (Sarah) and granddaughter Kelsey Nearing; several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Ed Shutt, her sister Doris Stoyles and her twin sister Vesta Palmer.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date with interment in Elmwood Cemetery, Moncton.
Donations made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
The Memorial Service will be held at the Riverview Funeral Home Chapel Pine Glen Rd. on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at 1:30 pm with Rev. Dr. Richard Jackson officiating.
