Obituary of Valerie Mary Byron
It is with great sorrow that the family of Valerie (Whalen) Byron announce her passing on January 9, 2008 at K. E. Spencer Memorial Home following an eight year struggle with Alzheimer's. Valerie was a former resident of Rockland Drive in Moncton. Born on January 6, 1928 in Campbellton, NB, she was the daughter of the late James and Evelyn (Savoie) Whalen.
Throughout her secretarial career, she worked at the CNR General Offices, Moncton City Hall and Foxboro Canada. She volunteered her service as secretary over the years to several groups including Home and School Associations and the Omista Credit Union Board of Directors. She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of Council 1310 Knights of Columbus and the Irish Canadian Cultural Association - Westmorland Albert Kent Chapter.
She was a long time parishioner of St. Bernard's Church and a member of the Catholic Women's League.
She is survived by her husband of 56 1/2 years Emmett; daughter Claudia McCloskey (Art) of Moncton; sons Larry of Dieppe, Andy (Lorraine) of Dieppe and Jeff (Wendy) of Fredericton; sister Claudia Adams (Gerald) of Moncton and brother Ambrose (the late Kay) (Claire) of Campbellton; granddaughters Bridget, Jessica and Abigail; grandsons Mitchell, Marshall, Mike and Chris and great grandson Connor; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Special people who supported Val during these past years left to mourn her loss are Margaret, Muriel, Mim, Sandy, Ruth, Florida, Connie and Angela.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers Henry, Clarence and William.
Visitation is at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. on Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00pm.
The funeral mass will be held at St. Bernard's Church, Botsford St. Moncton, on Monday, January 12, 2009 at 11:00 am with Fr. Michael Toner c.s.c. officiating.
Parish prayers will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 8:30pm.
Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
In Valerie's memory, donations to St. Bernard's Church Elevator Fund, the K. E. Spencer Memorial Home or the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
