Obituary of Raymond Ira Atkinson

Raymond I. Atkinson of Riverview and formerly of Lower Coverdale, husband to Rita passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on May 18th, 2008. Born in Calhouns Mills, NB to the late Everett and Daisy Atkinson. Raymond was a Korean War Veteran serving from 1950-1952, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #6 Moncton for 38 years. He was employed with CN for 36 years before retiring in 1986. He and Rita traveled to Florida for 19 winters in Zephyrhills Park. His summers were spent at Mechanic Lake where he loved to fish. In addition to his wife Rita, he is survived by his children Brenda Hyslop (George Price) of Hillsborough, Nancy (Bob) Prince of Salem Road, Linda (Mark) Beaumont of Edgetts Landing, Tracy (Kevin) O’Hara of Lower Coverdale, Bruce (Jennifer) Atkinson of Lower Coverdale); twelve grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; his siblings Ron (Bea) Atkinson of Simcoe On., Geraldine (Reg) Milton of Hopewell Cape, and Elsie (Bill) Horsman of Middleton, NS; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Raymond was predeceased by his step mother Dorothy (Price) Atkinson, a baby girl Debra (July 1949); son Michael (March 1969); and son Raymond Jr. (2003). The family will receive visitors at the Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Road on Tuesday, May 20th 2008 from 7:00-9:00pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 21st, 2008 at 3:30pm from the Riverview Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Alley officiating. Moncton Legion Branch #6 will be conducting a Veterans Service at 6:45pm Tuesday evening from the funeral home. Special thanks to Dr. Harper, Dr. Rubin, and the Extra Mural Nurses. Donations in Raymond’s memory made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Diabetic Association, or the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
