Betty enjoyed life greatly, especially family times, loved to travel and, over the years, took pleasure in bowling, golf and lawn bowling. She was an accomplished curler, representing New Brunswick on the senior women's curling team skipped by Peggy Piers from the MCA Club, which competed in the national senior curling championship. She also had a great talent for many forms of needlework, including knitting, sewing and needlepoint. Besides her husband and parents, Betty was predeceased by brother Gordon Stevens, an airman who was killed in England near the end of World War Two, and several of her close friends. She is survived by daughters Linda Saunders (Ken) of Riverview and Donna Beaton of Quispamsis; grandchildren Jenne Saunders (Martin McEwen) and Sara Saunders (Denis Goguen) of Montreal, Dean Hughson (Jen) of Calgary and Kyle Hughson (Danielle) of Quispamsis; and five great grandchildren. There will be no visiting at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held at Mount Royal United Church (106 Mount Royal Blvd, Moncton) on Thursday, April 8th, 2010 at 2:00pm with Rev. Brett Anningson officiating. Burial will take place in the Elmwood Cemetery at a later date.
