Obituary of James "Jim" Reid
James Reid of Riverview passed away Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Moncton Hospital. Jim was born in Truro, NS June 28, 1931 to Alfred and Ruth Reid of Milford, NS.
After high school at the Truro Academy Jim studied engineering at Mount Allison University. Three years later he decided to fly for a career, left Sackville, and joined the RCAF to become an aviator. In the air force he met a nurse named Enid. In 1957 they married in Ottawa and together they raised three sons. In 1965 he joined the Canadian Department of Transport Aviation Branch and they settled in Riverview, N.B. He was transferred to Ottawa in the fall of 1972 and returned to Riverview in 1974.
After retirement in 1991 Jim and Enid remained very active. They navigated much of the waterways of New Brunswick and traveled throughout Canada, USA, Mexico, Panama, and Great Britain. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, puttering about the house and harvested a plentiful garden every fall. Jim was a member of the RCAF veterans and the Riverview Veterans Associations and the Moncton Probus.
"Duds", as he was affectionately known by many, was always found in good spirits, even in his last days. He was intelligent, humorous, honest, respectful, and respected. He was able to fix just about any mechanical problem that one of his cars or boats developed and was adept at working with wood. He was counted on for solid advice by friends and family alike.
Jim is survived by and will be dearly missed by his wife of 49 years, Enid; sons Alan of Venezuela, Steven of Riverview, Murray and his wife Valerie of Halifax; and his grandchildren Lindsay and Patrick. He was predeceased by his parents, three brothers Earle, Ronald, and Ralph and sister Marilla Grant.
The Riverview Funeral Home will host a Riverview Veterans Service at 6:45pm and visitation from 7:00 - 9:00pm on Sunday December 17, 2006. The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday December 18, 2006 from the Riverview Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Berube officiating.
Donations made to The Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by Jim's family.
