Obituary of Joan Simmonds
Joan Simmonds, 63 of Riverview passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Saturday, November 15th, 2008. She was surrounded by her family.
Born on June 18th, 1945 in England, Joan was the daughter of the late Thomas and Violet (Louch) Power. As a baby, Joan and her family moved to Pictou, Nova Scotia where she was raised. She married her husband David, of nearly 41 years in 1967. Joan then devoted her life to raising her own family and to contributing to her community. For many years, Joan was an active member of the Chatham and Riverview Lioness, was a past president of the Riverview Lioness, a volunteer at Lakeview Manor, as well as a member of St. Paul's United Church.
Joan will be deeply missed by her husband David, and her sons Michael (Liza) of Singapore, Ed and Kevin (Colleen) both of Riverview. Her four grandchildren Sabrina, Daniel, Emma and Brianna will also miss their Nanny and the hours spent with her. Besides her immediate family, Joan is also survived by her sisters Judy White (Raymond) of Canso, Carol Cypher (Chuck) of New Glasgow, Toni Steward (Lawrence) of Miramichi; her brother Jack Power of Truro and her in-laws Harold and Bess Simmonds of Miramichi. Joan will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Riverview Funeral Home, (214 Pine Glen Road, Riverview) on Wednesday, November 19th, 2008 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 20th, 2008 at 11:00am from St. Paul's United Church, (404 Cleveland Ave, Riverview) with Rev. Steve Berube and Rev. Shawn Redden officiating. Interment will take place in Alderwood Cemetery.
Following the burial there will be a reception at the Riverview Lions Community Center (Coverdale Road, Riverview).
At the family's request, family flowers only please. For those who wish to make a donation in memory of Joan, it would be appreciated by the family if memorials were made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital (Bandaid Fund), Crohn's Society, or the charity of the donor's choice.
