Obituary of Lionel J. Meunier
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lionel J. Meunier, 85, of Moncton, occurred at The Moncton Hospital on June 5, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Jean-Baptiste Meunier and the late Marie-Anne (Anna) LeBlanc.
Lionel was employed with the City of Moncton and retired as Utilities Supervisor after 42 years’ service, being the City’s longest serving employee. Lionel enjoyed carpentry, woodworking, hunting, fishing, bowling, darts and cards. His family was his #1 priority, and he enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could, but particularly at Christmas and on Father’s Day. He took great pride in teaching his grandchildren and great-granddaughter how to play "scat", and many dimes were exchanged over the kitchen table during family get-togethers. If he put his "Houdini" on you, you were sure to lose. He was past director of the East End Boys’ and Girls’ Club, the Moncton Civic Credit Union, CUPE Local 51 and the City Hall Employee Association (CHEA).
Lionel is survived by his wife of 36 years, Pauline Doiron, his sons, Floyd (Odette), Paul (John Collins) and Tim (Mike LeBlanc); his step-daughter Joceline Leger (Maurice), his step-son Terry Doiron (Linda Motte), his grandchildren Jason Meunier (Sophie Boudreau), Andrew Meunier, Sarah Meunier (Jeremy Simpson), Jennifer Meunier (Chris Richard), all of Moncton, his step-grandchildren Veronique Beaudette (Brian), of Kingston, Ontario, Melanie Leger of Moncton; his great-grandchildren Catherine Robichaud , William (Will) and Logan Meunier, and Jared and Kailee Doiron, all of Moncton. He is also survived by his brothers Charlie (late Jean) of Maple Ridge, BC, Paul (Anita) of Moncton, his brother-in-law Floyd Gayton (Joan), of Lakeville; his sister-in-law Verna Cormier (late Jean), of Moncton; his former daughter-in-law Joanne Meunier of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Evelyn Gayton (1975), his son, Jean-Baptiste Meunier (1957); brothers and sisters, Alex (Theresa), Dorilla Cormier (Arcade), John, Laurie (Dorothy), and Florence Jones (Clifford); and by his brother-in-law Kirby Gayton (Theresa).
