Obituary of William Ray Lockwood

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our Dad, Bill on June 17, 2017 at the Veterans Health Centre, Moncton, N.B. Born in Winnipeg, Bill was the son of the late Ray and Doris (Fletcher) Lockwood. Bill enlisted in the RCNVR during WWII and served overseas on the HMCS Gatineau. Following the war he attended the University of Manitoba and graduated with a B.Comm in 1949. Bill spent most of his business career with the T. Eaton Co. Catalogue Division starting out his career in Winnipeg. He was later transferred to Toronto and then to Moncton where he was Catalogue Manager for the Maritimes until its closure in 1976. Bill is survived by his two daughters Janet (Wayne) Steeves of Hillsborough and Valerie (Ron) Crawford of Lower Coverdale, granddaughter Melanie Shaw (Rob Edmonds) of Riverview, grandson Mitchell (Kristy) Steeves of Lower Coverdale and four great-grandsons Hunter and Hudson Shaw and Benjamin and Ari Steeves. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his wife Ramona of 57 years (2007). Former member of Moncton Rotary Club, Gyro Club, City Club, Elks and Nummies. Director of YMCA, Chamber of Commerce and United Way. Bill also served as Director on Board of VON for ten years. Bill was a member of Trinity United Church in Shediac and sang in the choir at one point. He loved to play golf, bridge, garden and spend time with family and especially enjoyed family gatherings with grandchildren and great grandchildren. At Bill’s request there is no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date. We cannot begin to express our gratitude to the Veteran’s Health Centre where Dad has resided since October 2015. The veterans are treated with love and respect and the staff are very special people. We would also like to thank Dad’s friend Heather Jakeman for her dedication to Dad as well as to Rev. Roland Hutchinson and others who continued to visit Dad over the years. Dad was a wonderful person always known as the "Gentleman" even by the nursing home staff.
