Obituary of Irene Nickerson
It is with sadness we announce the death of Irene (Rene) Nickerson, loving mother and grandmother, on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Moncton Hospital. Born in London, England she was the only child of Bernard and Annie (Hurdle) MacKenzie.
She is survived by one daughter Judy Baxter (Edward) of Lower Coverdale, two sons David (Sandy) of Moncton, and Gary (Sandra) of Riverview; six grand children Susan (Tim) Pickett, Steven (Sherri) Baxter, Barry (Shelley) Baxter, Jamie (Jenn) Nickerson, Kevin (Jenn) Nickerson and Angela Nickerson; by nine great grandchildren; as well as two sisters-in-law Muriel Nickerson of Calgary, AB and Hazel Smith of Naples Florida. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Lawrence (Nick) Nickerson in 2000.
Irene lived all her life in Moncton and Riverview, after arriving in Canada at age three. Upon graduating from High School, she worked at Peake's Dept. Store. Most of her married life was spent as a homemaker caring for her family, but at age 55, went to work at Creaghan's in the bridal dept. She loved her work and is fondly remembered by many of the women whom she helped select their perfect wedding gown.
Irene was a member of St. George's Anglican Church, a former member of the Anglican Church Women, Bonar Law chapter of the I.O.D.E. and a former member of the Duplicate Bridge Club.
Formerly of Cameron St., Moncton and Waterside Terraces, Riverview, Irene had resided at the Grass Special Care Home in Riverview for the past three years. She loved the home and all of her caregivers whom she referred to as angels. All who knew her will miss her beautiful smile and sweet personality. Irene truly enjoyed life and was a pleasure to be around. She will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren.
Resting at the Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview with visitation on Friday, May 22, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00pm.
The funeral service will be held at Riverview Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 11:00 am with The Rev. Chris VanBuskirk officiating.
Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
In honor of Irene's memory, donation can be made to Friends of the Moncton Hospital, Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the donor's choice.
