Obituary of Irene Bourgeois

Irene M. Bourgeois, age 97 years, passed away on December 22, 2010 at the Villa Providence Nursing Home in Shediac. Born in Shediac Bridge, she was the daughter of the late Anna (Hebert) and Alphe Bourgeois. At an early age, Irene was employed by the late Mayor J. Fred and Maude Edgett to manage their domestic affairs at 26 Austin St. Moncton, a position she held for over 30 years with loyalty and dedication. Later, she worked at the Moncton City Hospital enjoying the care she gave in the pediatric unit. In her retirement she lived for many years on Weldon St. and could be seen on her daily walks in the Victoria Park area and to downtown. In March 2004, Irene became a resident of Moncton Kinsmen House where she enjoyed over 6 years of companionship and care with fellow residents and staff prior to her move to Shediac. Irene's interests included cooking, sewing, skating, walking, gardening, and knitting for charity. She was a devoted member and was always in attendance at L'Assomption Cathedral or Christ Roi Roman Catholic Churches. She was known for her warm and giving spirit, a true lady with a caring, humorous and friendly nature. She is survived by her brother Joseph (Aline) of Laval, PQ; Irene's special "my Judy" Edgett Darragh of Dartmouth, NS; lifelong best friend Olive Mercer Budd of Riverview, NB; her special "kid" Christie Edgett Swain of Whites Lake, NS; Evelyn Edgett and family of Halifax, NS; special friends Vi Wood and Heather MacDonald of Moncton, NB; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by sisters Laura, Edna, Rita, Millie and brother Robert. In keeping with Irene's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 1:30pm from Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel in Moncton, NB with Father Donald Arsenault officiating.
