Obituary of Shirley E. McIsaac

It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Shirley E. McIsaac at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Friday, February 11, 2011 at the age of 90 years. Born in Long Settlement, Carleton Co., NB on December 28, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Lee H. and Velma B. (McLellan) Long. After completing Normal School in Fredericton, Shirley moved to Florenceville where she met and married Donald, her husband of 49 years. She was a teacher for 25 years and the principal at West Florenceville Elementary School, and at the same time assisted in the operation of Donald’s Poultry Farm. She was an active member of the Florenceville United Baptist Church, where she was Superintendent of the Sunday School, a life long member of the Women’s Missionary Society, the NB Women's Institute, the NB Retired Teachers’ Association and an honorary member of the Florenceville Rotary Club. After moving to Riverview, she became an avid member of the First Baptist Church where she was involved with the Missionary Society (Evelyn Eaton) and Idle Hours. Always community minded, Shirley religiously donated an annual scholarship in memory of her husband. Because she was the kindest, sweetest, most gentle lady one could ever meet, she made many dear friends in the seven short years that she lived in Riverview. Her friendly smile will be remembered by many. Shirley enjoyed a good game of bridge, reading, baking her famous jam jams, traveling and cheering for her Blue Jays. However, her greatest joy and source of pride came from her family. She dearly treasured any time spent with her family. Her generous gift of an annual trip to St. Andrews will be a fond memory that will live on in all their hearts. She will be sadly missed by her beloved daughters Carol McIsaac of Riverview, Marie and her husband Alan Church of Rothesay; five loving grandchildren, Troy (Elizabeth) Blakney, Christopher (Erin) Blakney, Chad (Julie) Blakney, Peter (Sonya) Church, Lindsay Church, and great grandson, Mark Blakney. Shirley was predeceased by her husband J. Donald McIsaac in 1993, her brother Ralph Long and his wife Katherine. Visitation will be held at The Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. on Tuesday, February 15 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at The Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 16 at 3:00pm with Rev. Delbert Bannister officiating. Donations in Shirley's memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of New Brunswick or to a memorial of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family. Please refrain from wearing men’s and women’s scented products due to a severe allergy within the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd., Riverview, NB (506) 857-9544. Service Information Wednesday, February 16, 2011
