Obituary of Murray H. Rogers

With hearts filled with sadness but also peace; we announce the passing of Murray Rogers, in his 91st year on March 16, 2016 with his family by his side at Moncton City Hospital. Murray was born in Sunny Brae, the youngest child of the late Corey and Clara (Killam) Rogers. Murray lived most of his life on Gorveatte St in Lakeburn with his late wife, Muriel A. (Caldwell) Rogers (2003); before moving in with his son and daughter-in-law on Kelly Rd, Moncton for 5 years. He then moved to Peoples Park Tower for 7 years and has been residing at Moncton Residence since last spring. Murray is survived by his son and wife, Jim & Sandy (Girvan) Rogers of Riverview, his granddaughter Judith, (Ryan Stokes), and his precious great grandson, James of Kingston, NS. Also survived by his daughter, Susan Norlander of Calgary, his granddaughter, Carly Norlander of Salt Lake City, Utah, his grandson, Josh Norlander and the youngest great granddaughter, Isla Grace of Calgary. He is also survived by his inherited grandchildren Jeff & Jeannette LeBlanc of Riverview, Mike & Pascale LeBlanc of Neuville, QC and Julie & Kevin Solbak of Beaumont, AB as well as his much loved great grandchildren Abigail & Evan LeBlanc, Yorick & Nafissa LeBlanc, Sydney, Hannah and Trevor Solbak. He was loved and will be missed by many. Murray is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Reta Rogers (late Stewart) and Olive (Rogers) Mercer (late Don). He leaves behind many special nieces and nephews and loved friends. As well as being predeceased by his parents and his cherished wife, Muriel he was the last member of his immediate family; predeceased by his ten siblings, Helen, Pearl, Ethel, Hazel, Mildred, Stewart, Gwenna, Emery, Ruth, and Donald. He was predeceased by his nephew Bob Magee, niece Muriel O’Brien, great nephew Jeffrey Baker and recently by his niece Ellen Rogers. At a young age Murray was a bus driver for Sunny Brae Bus lines. He enlisted in 1943 and served his country in World War II with RCEME (formerly Ordance Corps) as Corporal First Class. As part of his training he attended Khaki College in Camberly, England studying Business Administration. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Czechoslovakia, and was active in the Liberation of Holland. He participated in D Day on the Normandy Beaches. After returning to Canada he worked for the UIC Regional Office and as a CN Brakeman. He held the position of Manager of Facilities, Operations and Maintenance for Transport Canada at Moncton Airport and retired with 37 ½ years service. Murray was an early and faithful member of the Lakeburn United Church and was a cub leader and elder. He was a member of Visions United Church. Murray was a member of Sunny Brae Seniors and Sunny Brae Legion Seniors. Also he was a member of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society. He enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, hockey and travelling. He was a Life Member of the Citation Indian Club and past member of Perfect Circle Family Motorcoach Association. Murray was a Life Time Member and Past President of the Sunny Brae Legion #54. He worked tirelessly for the Legion and their members. Visitation will be held Tuttle Brothers and Riverview Funeral Home on Friday, March 18th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. There will be a Legion Service at 6pm Friday. Celebration of Murray’s life will be at the Funeral Home on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 2 pm with Rev Shawn Reddin officiating. There will be a reception following the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery at a later date.
