Obituary of Harold "Hal" Leo Gibson

Harold "Hal" Leo Gibson, passed away peacefully on June 13th at the Moncton Hospital, his family by his side after a long and courageous fight with cancer. Born in Halifax, "Hal" was a dedicated family man who also managed to give countless hours to his community through many volunteer organizations. "Harold Gibson Sir" as he was known by, was a lifelong member of the Lion’s Club as well as serving the Meals on Wheels Program, the Boys and Girls Club and the Knights of Columbus. He played with the Bridgedale Seniors and was a long time member of the Parklane’s Sr. Bowling League and belonged to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Harold was retired from Day and Ross as a dispatcher with 22 years service. Coming to Moncton in 1951, Harold, the son of Frank Gibson and Mary Anne (nee Morris) is survived by his wife Bernice Rose (LaPierre) of 60 years, eight children, Alan (Peggy), Valerie, Lynn Kelly (Dave), Terry, Dave (Kerry Ann), Mary Anne Narum (Rick), Peter (Monette), Nancy Horowitz (Ron), and 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his brother Frank and sisters Mary Lewin and Edie Cooper. He will be sadly missed by all of his family, friends and family pet, Daisy Duke. Visitation will be at the Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Rd. Thursday, June 16th from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. A Lion’s Service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening at 7 PM and Parish Prayers and Sharing of Memories will be held Thursday evening at 8:30pm. The Funeral mass will be held on Friday, June 17th at 10:00am at the Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church, Riverview, with Fr. Phil Mulligan officiating. A reception at the church hall will follow immediately after the mass. Interment will be at the Alderwood Cemetery, Riverview. The Gibson family would like to thank Dr John Li and all the nurses on 4th and 3rd floor (Palliative Care) who took such kind and attentive care to our Mom’s husband (Chickie) and our father. In lieu of flowers, any donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation – Palliative Care Unit, or local SPCA would be kindly appreciated.
