Obituary of Helen R. Hawkes

Helen R. Hawkes of Hillsborough, N.B. passed away at The Moncton Hospital, on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at the age of 88 years. Born in Weldon, NB on October 26, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Rollo A. and Edith (Crozier) Steeves. She was a former employee of T. Eaton Co.; A lifetime member of Lower Coverdale United Church until May of 2009 when she moved to Fundy Royal Manor in Hillsborough. She was Clerk of Session, past Sunday School Superintendent and past Sunday School Teacher. She was a Life member of the Women's Institute; a member of the Westmorland Horticultural Society and a member of the Albert County Liberal Association. She will be sadly missed by daughter Sharon McKay and her husband Ed of Riverview; son Robert Hawkes and his wife Lynne of Sackville, NB ; four grandchildren Darren McKay (Zoe Kelly) of Bedford, NS, Jeff McKay (Jodi) of Quispamsis, Erin Hawkes ( Kassa Emiru) of Vancouver, BC and Laura Hawkes (Pengfei Qu) of Victoria, BC; and great grandaughter Allison Qu; sister Evelyn Turner of Moncton; brother Reg Steeves (Georgina) of Moncton as well as nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband Kelsey Hawkes; sister Muriel Weir and brother Rev. Chester Steeves. Visitation will be held at The Riverview Funeral Home on Monday August 29th, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm & 7:00pm - 9:00pm. The Funeral service will be held at The Riverview Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday August 30th, 2011 at 2:00pm with Rev. Carol Mullin officiating. In Helen's memory, donations made to the Friends of The Moncton Hospital Foundation, Hillsborough United Church or Wilmot Cemetery would be appreciated by her family.
