Obituary of Helen Minerva Cumming

Mrs. Helen Cumming, formerly of Moncton, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, Bathurst, at the age of 101. Born in Upper Cape, Westmorland Co, NB, she was the eldest daughter of the late J. Herbert and Jeanette (Irvine) Rayworth. She was predeceased by her husband Arthur in 2004 and is survived by two sons; David (Judith), Bathurst and Paul of Florida; one brother, Lawrence of Burlington, ON; one sister, Leah Connolly of Dartmouth, NS; brother-in-law, Havelyn Chaisson of Dartmouth, NS; one granddaughter, Leigh Ann (Keith Morrison) Cumming of Cambridge Bay, NU.; grandsons, Michael (Jeannine) of Quispamsis, NB, Jeffery of Moncton and Peter (Kathy Lloyd) of Shediac; three great grandchildren, Alexander, Madison and Carly; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers; Cedric and Gordon; and one sister, Jean MacRae. Helen was employed by the T. Eaton Co. In Moncton for many years. She was active in the St. John’s United Church as a member of the Visitation Committee and was an Honorary Lifetime Elder; an active member of the Canadian Mental Health Association for over 25 years, and for many years with the Y.W.C.A. Helen was also a member of the local Kinettes. Summers for over 50 years were spent at Cornwall Point where she was actively involved in Community Life. Many thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of Chaleur Regional Hospital; Dr. Barnhill and the caring staff of the Foyer-Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes and Rev. Blair Lewis of the First United Church in Bathurst. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at St. John’s United Church, Moncton on Saturday, October 11 at 2 pm, Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. Interment will take place at Fairhaven Memorial Gardens, Moncton.
