Obituary of Henry Surette
Henry Surette, 75, of Moncton, NB; passed away at The Moncton Hospital, on Thursday, May 24, 2018. Born in Cherryfield, he was the son of the late Patrick and Viva Surette.
He spent most of his working years at Frizzells Construction as a Mechanic and Heavy Equipment Operator and was later employed at Lakeburn Lumber. His retirement years were filled with giving of himself to others, clearing snow, mowing lawns and cutting wood for winter. He was a born "fixer". He was our "go to" person.
Henry was loved for his kindness, generosity and gentle spirit. A simple life; a wonderful man.
Henry is survived by his loving daughter, Kathy Surette (Jeff Arsenault), Cherryfield; two sisters, Annie Crossman, Moncton, Dian McKay (Bill), Dieppe; one brother, Raymond (Ella), Cherryfield, NB. Henry was predeceased by one brother Edmond.
He will also be missed by Rose King and her children, Steven, Gordie, Sandra and grandchildren.
In Memory of Henry from Dian, his Sister
I write to get my feelings out. I write poems and stories for my grandchildren to make them laugh. I write in times of loss to grieve. I thought that because I loved Henry so much this writing in his memory would be a piece of cake. I find it is almost impossible; the feelings chase away the words. However, we are a tough family and so today I will write to tell you of this man - my brother. Henry taught me how to skate, not well, but still he tried. He taught me to ride a bike, drive a tractor and later a car. I have never caused an accident. And all without an angry word – never an angry word. He bought me my first fancy dress from the Eaton’s catalogue. He taught me to look for kindness in a man; how not to go for the flash of someone but to look for strength of character and loyalty. When Henry gave of himself or his wallet he did so with an open heart and total discretion. Your secrets were always safe with Henry. He gave freely never looking for praise or payback. Did he ever ask anyone to pay him for mowing a lawn, plowing a driveway or to help get an engine working? There are no heroic deeds, no fancy cars, nor great piles of gold with which to remember Henry, but this tough, strong, hardworking, kind, gentle, shy and humble man will live on in the hearts of those that knew him, were helped by him or loved him. That is quite a legacy.
