Obituary of Hugh T. Reardon
Hugh T. Reardon, 87, of Peoples Park Tower and formerly of Leslie St. Moncton, passed away at Lakeview Manor on Thursday, February 9, 2006.
Born in Lewisville, NB he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Laurie) Reardon.
He was employed with the CNR as a Work Study Analyst. Following his retirement from the CNR, he was employed as a Real Estate Agent.
He was a member of the CN Pensioners Association and served on committees at theLocal, Regional and National Levels. He was also instrumental committee member in the construction of the CN Pensioners Building.
He was a member ot St. Augustines Parish, Moncton. Hugh was active an in all aspects of Lionism which spannned over 46 years, he was a member of the Moncton Lions Club where he served as President, Vice President, Treasurer and served as chairman on many committees. He served as District Governor of 41N1, Zone Chairman Zone 2, Region 3 and many committees on the District Level. Hugh was elected as the Lions International Director in 1979 and served to 1981.
He authored and prepared briefs on behalf of the Moncton Lions Club and presented to the following Submission on a Seniors Citizen Centre, presented to the Provincial Cabinet 1967, Submissions on proverty and its affects on Seniors presented to the Senate Commission on Proverty 1970, Submission -Lions Senior Citizens Centre, presented to the City of Moncton 1973.
Hugh was a Board member of Downtown City Housing Inc. for approximately 20 years, serving in different capacities including as President, which developed the Senior Citizen Complex in the Heritage Court Building known as Foundry Place.
Hugh was awarded Lion of the Year Club Level and District Level, he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award, Ambassador of Good Will, International Presidents Awards as well as the Lion Hugh Reardon Eye Clinic at the Moncton Hospital named after him, and the CNIB and the Moncton Lions Club present a annual award called the 'PID Hugh and Florence Reardon Fellowship', honoring his and his wife's dedication, accomplishments that Hugh treasured, however he would be the first to tell you, that he could have not done it without the support of his wife Florence and his family.
A loving and caring, husband, father and grandfather and a true friend to all who knew him, he will be sadly missed by his wife Florence Reardon, his two daughters, Mary Louise Sirois (Jacques) of Moncton Patricia Weir (Hugh) of Toronto; seven grandchildren, George Sirois (Tracey), Elizabeth Rutledge (John), Marc Sirois (Syrine), Martin Sirois, Joseph Brean (Jane), Anna Brean and Tess Brean, eight great-grandchildren and by several nieces and nephews. Hugh was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was predeceased by three sisters Patricia, Agnes and Mary.
Visitation is at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home, Lutz St. Moncton on Sunday, February 12, 2006 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Parish Prayers will be held at Tuttle Brothers, Sunday evening February 12, 2006 at 8:30 pm. followed by a Lions Memorial Service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Funeral Home, Sunday evening at 9:00pm
The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Augustine's Church, Moncton on Monday, February 13, 2006 at 11:00 am with Fr. Phil Mulligan officiating. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
