Obituary of Walter Douglas Spencer Jr.
Walter Douglas Spencer Jr, 79 , of Riverview, passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, January 10, 2007.
Born in Moncton on June 17, 1927, he was the son of the lateWalter Douglas Sr. and Myrtle (Hutchinson) Spencer. Walter was a longtime employee of The Canadian National Railways, starting with a clerical position in 1946 at CN's offices in Moncton. He rose through the ranks and held several important managerial positions with CN throughout Canada such as National Director of Freight Rates. He had stops in Saint John, Montreal, Vancouver and Toronto. He was the National Manager of Forest Products in Montreal when he retired in 1984. He returned to the Moncton area for his retirement years. In his youth, he was a proud member of The Oddfellows Brass Band in Moncton along with his father Walter Spencer Senior, his sister Dorothy Spencer and his younger brother Ron Spencer. He also played the baritone in the First Baptist Church Band, The Brotherhood. He was a loving man who will be sadly missed.
He is survived by His wife Shirley E. Spencer ,two daughters Diane (Brian) Northup of Quesnel BC; Pamela (Keith) Dippel of Smithers BC; two sons Wayne Spencer (Cindy) of Riverview; Stephen Spencer of Riverview; one sister Dorothy Thomas of Moncton; one brother Ronald Spencer of Moncton; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
There is no visitation at the funeral home.
The funeral service will be held at The Riverview Funeral Home on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Delbert Bannister officiating.
Interment will be in Fairhaven Memorial Gardens.
Donations in Walter's memory made to Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to the memorial of the donors choice would be appreciated by his family.
