Obituary of Parker George Wells
A deeply peaceful transition from this world to life evermore occurred Friday evening, February 13 at the Kenneth Spencer Memorial Home when Parker George Wells was relieved of his extended struggle with dementia. Born in 1931 in Baie Verte, NB, he was the son of the late George Walton Wells and Lucy Frances Lowther. Subsequent to his mother’s untimely passing, Parker was lovingly raised by his paternal aunt, Frances VanEmber and her husband, George, in and around Pugwash, NS.
Mourning his loss are his wife of 53 years, Marjorie (Morton) Wells, sons Graham (Joanne Bell; Dylan & Natalie) of Halifax, NS; Ian (Lalaine Gonzales; David) and daughter Joyce (Gregory Steeves; Keillor, Meryn, Lirah & Talia) all of Moncton. His children and grandchildren were the centre of his pride and joy in life, objects of his affection and delight. He is survived by brothers Ralph, Toronto ON and Ernest (Ruth), Kingston ON, in addition to sister-in-law Nettie Wells, Baie Verte, brother-in-law James Morton (Norma), Beaconsfield QC and special sister-in-law, Winnifred Coates, Moncton. He leaves numerous nieces and nephews, including Larry Wells (Lynn), Moncton, who was notably kind and attentive through the later years of life. Parker was predeceased by brothers Hazen (Jenny) and Robert, as well as sisters Edith, Dora (Kelly Murray) and Edna (Rob Swan) and sister-in-law Helen Wells.
Parker enjoyed 36 years as a machinist (International Association of Machinist, Local 1571) with Canadian National, gaining the respect of his co-workers as a particularly dedicated, effective trouble-shooter in running repair and steam generators. Following retirement from the railway, he spent 11 years in part-time employment with Church Court seniors’ complex where his personable attention to maintenance and residents’ needs were highly regarded.
Having committed his life to Christ as a young lad of seventeen in Port Howe, NS, Parker’s life was marked by consistent, lifelong witness in serving others. He truly was a man of character, integrity and loyalty, full of concern for the needs of others. He gently invested himself in kindly meeting those needs in his family, church community and neighbourhood. Throughout life in Moncton, he variously fellowshipped at the Gospel Hall, Faith Bible Chapel and First Moncton United Baptist Church. He was actively involved in the mission of Malagash Bible Camp for several years and was a long-time supporter of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
