Obituary of Vivian Evangeline Steeves

Vivian E. Steeves, of Moncton, passed away peacefully at the special care home, Serenacare on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the age of 96 years. Born on November 5, 1919, in Millville, she was the daughter of the late Murray and Alice (Brown) Wallace. Vivian was educated at Fredericton High School, Provincial Normal School and University of New Brunswick. She retired from 32 years of teaching. She last taught in the Mathematics Department of Harrison Trimble High School. While at HTHS, she was involved in the production of thirteen broadway musicals at the school. Vivian was a member of First Baptist Church for 67 years and the sanctuary choir for over 60 years. She was a member of the Zella Clark Group and a Life member of the National W.M.S., a member of the Fellowship First Group, a former Sunday School Teacher and a C.G.I.T. leader. Throughout the years, she was a member of several boards and committees within the church. Vivian was a member of Tidal Wave Temple #16 and a Charter Member of Jennie Miller Temple Pythian Representative of the Grand Temple. She was a former member of the Greater Moncton Choral Group. She was a member of the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home Volunteer Group, volunteering every Thursday for over 30 years. Vivian was a member of the Greater Moncton area Retired Teachers and the HTHS Retired Teachers Group. She was involved in the community including the Karing Kitchen, meal delivery for the Red Cross (meals on wheels) and worked for the Cancer Society. For several years, Vivian was on the Executive of the National Council of Women in Canada, as well as President of the Moncton Council. This allowed her to visit many areas in many provinces in Canada. She was also privileged to have the opportunity to travel to many places around the world. Vivian will be missed by her son, Paul, of New Westminster, BC. and daughter Judith (Donald Barnes), of Springfield, NS, two sisters Madeline Tufts, of Ottawa, ON, and Dr. Eileen Wallace, of Fredericton, NB, one niece Darlene (Dan) Lutes of Branson, MO, USA and their families. Besides her parents, Vivian was predeceased by her husband Wesley E. Steeves in 1999, infant son Bruce Roger in 1954, sister Alta Davenport, two nephews William Tufts and Murray Tufts, niece Anne Kerr, and one grand niece Dinah Young, brother-in-law Bradford Steeves, sister-in-law Kathleen Steeves. Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers & Riverview Funeral Home on Wednesday, January, 20, 2016 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm & 6:00pm - 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church, Queen St. Moncton, on Thursday, January , 21, 2016 at 11:00am with Rev. Dr. Richard Jackson officiating, with a reception to follow. Interment will be in Fair Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations in Vivian's memory made to the First Baptist Church, or to the memorial of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. Special thanks to Dr. G.L. Donald and the staff of Serenacare who lovingly cared for Vivian in her final days, as well as the last 4 years. Many thanks to Etta Reid for her continued support and friendship. Thanks to Linda Deloughery (Vivian's angel) for her weekly dedication in visiting and reading to Vivian for the past 5 years and the staff of Tuttle Brothers and Riverview Funeral Home.
