Obituary of J. Frank Fagan

J. Frank Fagan Retired Engineer–CNR Horse owner, rider and breeder, long-time member of the United States and Canadian Trotting Associations Former owner of Parkton Confectionery Founding Director and Board member of Downtown City Housing Corp. (Heritage Court/Foundry Place) Frank Fagan, born September 27, 1920 at Port Elgin NB, entered eternal rest peacefully on February 14, 2011 at Monarch Hall in Riverview. Predeceased by his mother Stella Marie Donelle, father Frank Fagan, wife Katherine Murdoch Fagan, daughter Maureen Fagan Matthews, sisters Armeline, Lenita, Marie Matilda and Sandra Mabel, brother George Fagan, sisters-in-law Geraldine Murdoch (Gerry) Leblanc, Gertrude Murdoch Hachey, brothers-in-law Dr George Albert Murdoch, Patrick Murdoch, James Murdoch, Thomas Murdoch, Dr Fred Murdoch, Richard (Dick) Donahoe, Lelice LeBlanc, Carson Hawes, Jim Latham and George Smith. Survived by daughter Ann of Calgary, AB, sons Tom (Kevin Groves) of Ottawa, ON , Barry (Susan Bransfield) and Frankie of Moncton, NB; grandchildren Dr. Shawn McDermott of White River Junction, Vermont, Courtney DeGiano and Andrew Fagan of Calgary, AB; sisters Marian Smith of Airdrie, AB., Blanche Hawes of Halifax, NS, Marjorie Latham of Port Elgin, NB; brothers Valerie (Adrienne) of Port Elgin, NB, Gordon (Elsia) of Vancouver, BC, Roger (Jane) of Woodstock, NB, Rene of Terrace, BC, Tommy of Port Elgin, NB, Raymond (Emmie) of River Hebert, NS; sisters-in law Edna Donahoe of Oakville, ON, Jean Murdoch of Halifax, NS, Janine Murdoch of Kitimat, BC, Margie Murdoch of Fredericton, NB, Mary Ann Murdoch of Omaha, Nebraska; brother-in-law Zoel Gauvin of Moncton, NB and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews throughout Canada and the USA. The family wishes to express our thanks and appreciation to the administration and staff of Shannex Monarch Hall and to Dr. Bob Forbes. Their professionalism, sensitivity and loving care of dad, throughout his time at Monarch Hall and especially during his final days, were tremendously considerate of him and of us as well. Frank was known for his love for his family, for his horses, for his story-telling with his keen sense of humor and his flash of Irish temper. A good man with friends from many walks of life, he respected and treated everyone with fairness and helped many people anonymously. He will be remembered as a loving and generous man who lived a full life based on his strong values and principles. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St Augustine’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, February 26th, 2011 at 11am with Fr. Bernard Sloan officiating. A reception will follow in the Parish Hall. Visitation is at Tuttle Brothers’ Funeral Home, 171 Lutz St. Moncton, on Friday, February 25, 2011 from 3pm until 5pm and from 7pm until 9pm. Cremation to follow and interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery later in the spring. Donations in Frank's memory made to the United Way or to the charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by his family.
