Obituary of Emmett Raymond Byron

Emmett Byron, of the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Home, formerly of Rockland Drive in Moncton, passed away peacefully at his residence following a time of deteriorating health. Born on August 31, 1924 in Norton, NB; he was the son of the late James and Jennie (Culligan) Byron. He worked as a machinist for the CN for 43 years, spending most of that time at the Moncton Shops until his retirement, when he became a member of the CN Pensioners group. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Bernard's Parish, a member of the church choir, Knights of Columbus Council # 1310 and the Msgr. Roy M. MacDonald 4th Degree Assembly. He was proud of his Irish roots and was one of the founding members of the Irish Canadian Cultural Association-Westmorland Albert Kent Chapter. His tenor voice could be heard singing old Irish favourites wherever he was, particularly as St. Patrick's Day drew near. He is survived by daughter Claudia McCloskey (Art) of Moncton; sons Larry of Moncton, Andy (Lorraine) of Dieppe and Jeff (Wendy) of Fredericton; sister Muriel Richards of Moncton; granddaughters Bridget, Jessica and Abigail; grandsons Mitchell, Marshall, Mike and Chris and great grandson Connor, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 56 1/2 years Valerie (January 2009), brothers Ralph, Cyril, Arthur and sister Geraldine. A special thank you to the Fernwood and Applegrove staff of the K.E. Spencer Memorial Home for their care of dad since January of 2008.
