Obituary of Edward Lee
The family of Edward (Ted) Lee, fondly referred by his grandchildren as Woo-Woo, sadly announces his passing at the Moncton Hospital on Saturday, May 1, 2010.
Ted was a native Durham County, England. He served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, being stationed in the United Kingdom, Moncton and Hong Kong. During his posting to Moncton he met the love of his life Mary Shaban that resulted in over Sixty -seven years of supportive marriage.
Ted and Mary operated Ted's Grocery Store located on Lewis Street for over fifty years. For the last several years he has resided in Pointe du Chene.
His close family ties was demonstrated by his commitment to his daughter Vicky (Brian) Baxter and her dedication to him during his failing years.
Ted was an avid harness racing fan, owning his own stables at Brunswick Downs in Dieppe. During the winter months he continued to follow harness racing at the Pompano Raceway in Florida.
During Hockey season, Ted followed his beloved Maple Leafs and remained loyal to them regardless of their win loss record. He did concede that Sidney Crosby was the best player in the National Hockey League. He was also an avid boxing and baseball fan.
He was exceptionally close to his grandchildren Ted (Kerry) Baxter of Rothesay and Mari-Lee Baxter of Pompano, Florida and his great grandchildren Patrick and Lauren Baxter of Rothesay.
Ted was a member the Royal Canadian Legion, US Trotting Association and Keith Lodge # 23 F. & A.M. in Moncton.
He is also survived by sister-in-law Connie ( the late Moody) Shaban and by several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Jenny Wakefield (Jack) and brothers Arthur, Tommy and Billy all of England and members of his Canadian family Chris (Gladys), Moody, Charlie (Jean), Joe (Gertie), Arlie (Lillian) Shaban of Moncton and Toronto and Emily (Joe) Aberham of Truro.
At Ted's request there is no viewing at the Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at Tuttle Brothers Memorial Chapel, 171 Lutz St. Moncton, NB on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Aaron Billard officiating.
Donations made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or to charity of donors choice in Ted's memory would be appreciated by his family.
